Philosophy

Conservation criteria, historical considerations, functional needs, aesthetic standards, scientific findings…….. the range of requirements for cautious restoration of historic furniture and objects is extensive.

In order to honour this responsibility, we work in our studio under the following criteria:

  • Use of reversible techniques and methods
  • Selection of appropriate materials in combination with the latest conservation standards;  This includes traditional means such as hide and bone adhesives, reclaimed timbers and saw cut veneers as well as scientifically proven conservation materials.
  • Preservation of original substance
  • Retention of Patina: historic signs of use through the centuries, slight fading of veneers, small imperfections that show the history of a piece and add to its value and uniqueness.
